What to Expect During a Hearing Test

Hearing check-ups are essential at Platinum Hearing, and we believe everyone should get regular checks. Some people do not visit a doctor with hearing problems until the problem affects their lives. These screenings can help to reveal problems early on before they become more challenging to treat. Platinum Hearing offers a complete hearing test based on the patient's needs, past medical history, and life situation to ensure that we provide an accurate diagnosis and management plan.

Personalized Approach to Testing:

Our assessments are designed to test different aspects of hearing and the ear. Each evaluation is tailored to each participant's symptoms, medical history, and daily activities. Our hearing health professionals will determine which tests should be done to make the most accurate diagnosis.

Types of Hearing Tests Performed:

Initial Consultation & Case History

We know your hearing issues and general health.

Video Otoscopy

Examining the ear canal and eardrum to determine if anything is blocking or wrong.

Pure-Tone Audiometry

Determines the intensity of sounds you can hear at various frequencies to determine the degree of hearing loss.

Bone Conduction Testing

Measures the function of the inner ear to determine the kind of hearing loss and whether it is conductive or sensorineural.

Speech & Speech-in-Noise Testing

Determine how well you understand speech in quiet and how well you understand in noise, which is similar to real-life conditions.

Tympanometry & Acoustic Reflex Testing

Assesses the function of the middle ear, for example, to determine if there is fluid in the middle ear, an infection, or if the eardrum is not functioning correctly.

Tinnitus Matching & Loudness Testing

Describes the tinnitus and its intensity and tone for possible treatment (if required) and gives an idea of the potential management.

Real-Ear Measurements (REM)

For hearing aid users, REM checks that the hearing aid is correctly programmed for best results and better and more unmistakable sound.
